The exhibition is based on the results obtained by the students and teachers from the Department of Industrial and Agricultural Building Design of the University of Technology and Economics, Budapest, who participated at the summer school organized at Sovata, in the summer of 2013, in the frame of an international project (RLRC – Erasmus IP).

The students had the opportunity of presenting the results of their research at the Students’ Conference organized last year by the University of Budapest. According to the regulation, they had the possibility to propose projects on one of the following three topics:

1. The placement of a pavilion near the ruins of the Roman watchtower from Ibănești, which could represent, in the same time, a reference point in the landscape.

2. The development of an archaeological research centre together with multifunctional exhibition areas using the buildings already existing in Călugăreni.

3. The design of provisional pavilions used for presenting the Roman ruins discovered at Călugăreni.

27 students took part at the conference and they presented 11 projects, each of them coordinated by a teacher. The jury, composed of architects, archaeologists and experts on heritage protection, awarded 5 main prizes and 4 special ones.

The projects will be presented for the first time in Târgu Mureș, as part of the exhibition organized by the Roman Limes Research Centre from Mureș County Museum, which can be visited between the 4th and 30th of March 2014.

Roman Delights

Roman bites and wine tasting served with ancient literary delicacy translated into Hungarian.

The assertion that the universal European culture rests on the fundaments of the Roman culture can be considered already a cliché. However, the Middle Ages, the Humanism, the Baroque or the Enlightenment from the 19th century would have never been born without the cultural and spiritual heritage of the classical antiquity.

The event entitled „Roman Delights” organised by the Roman Limes Research Centre affiliated to the Mureș County Museum would like to evoke this connections, through the means of the culinary art.  Our event tries to recall the Roman dining habits and recepies as well as the atmosphere of the banquets by delicious food and wine tasting made after authentic Roman recipes. In order to spice up even more the atmosphere, the visitors will be able to read Roman literary extracts related to meals and banquets, and also to watch small films about the reconstructed places used for dining in the Roman times.

Place: Târgu Mureș, Bolyai Klub, Mihail Kogălniceanu Street 18B.

Date: the 21st of January 2014 at 7 pm.

The day of Hungarian Science in Transylvania

On the 30th of November 2013 a conference entitled “Maros megye történetéből. A Magyar Tudomány Napja Erdélyben, 12. fórum” (From the History of Mureș County. The Day of the Hungarian Science in Transylvania, 12th Forum) was held in Târgu Mureș. The general subject of the regional conference was the recent research from the field of history and related disciplines focusing on the territory of Mureș county. Taking into consideration the fact that the region, what it is today Mureș county, was rich even in the ancient times, this conference was a great opportunity for us to promote the traces of this heritage. Our results were presented by one of our colleagues with the paper entitled “A római limes Maros megye területén. Örökségvédelmi kihívások” (Roman Limes in the territory of Mureș county. Challanges concerning the Cultural Heritage).

This conference has a special importance in the dissemination of our results concerning the Eastern limes of Dacia on an academic level. Two members of our team held two presentations on the researched issues.  In one   the main results of the research history of the Roman site of Călugăreni has been presented. The other was focusing on the analysis of a particular type of Roman lamp, an iron hanging lamp that was recovered from the same fort during the archaeological campaign from 2013.

Promoting the Roman heritage of Sărățeni

The Roman heritage of Sărățeni/Sóvárad (Mureş County), its research and the results of recent investigation in the region was presented on a local history conference about Sovata and surroundings, entitled  “II.
